The right neighbourhood for you
Seven Mile Beach
Seven Mile Beach is a long crescent of white-sand beach on the western end of Grand Cayman island. Renowned for its beauty, “SMB” recently received the honour of "The Caribbean's Best Beach" from Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine. This area is generally the most costly area to rent and buy as the SMB Corridor provides short work commutes, walking distance to a wide variety of restaurants and social events, as well as being able to enjoy all that the beach has to offer right on your door step, from a beach walk, paddle boarding or sundowners at the end of another day in paradise.
George Town / South Sound
George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands and is known as a financial hub and a port of call for cruise ships. This area offers families and young professionals more for their money, and promises a short commute. Whether you plan on having a lot of visitors or have a large family, properties in the George Town area offer more space for the dollar. South Sound is a family friendly area and here you can find less expensive beach front or close access than the SMB corridor. Those in the know favour the untouched sands of Smith Barcadere in South Sound, known locally as Smith Cove where you can relax under the sea grape trees, jump off the ironshore and explore some fantastic snorkeling!
West Bay
West Bay has recently become more desirable in Cayman with the new by-pass making the commute to George Town and Seven Mile Beach just a 10 minute drive. Offering a charming local flavor, West Bay is home to many affordable ocean front properties and is known for its slow charm and more gentle pace of life. The best beach in this neighbourhood is the tranquil Barkers Beach, also a kite boarders dream! Popular with divers, you are guaranteed to enjoy the underwater sights of the West Bay area too.
Red Bay/Prospect
Equally popular amongst local residents and expats, Red Bay and Prospect offer a true sense of community built around the hub of the Grand Harbour Shopping Centre. Attracting families, couples and singles, Grand Harbour has become a neighbourhood gathering place where you can do the weekly shop, dash to the pharmacy or stock up at Blackbeard’s liquor store. With 3 restaurants, Grand Harbour is a popular spot to see familiar faces and catch up with friends. Housing is similar in style to George Town and South Sound but you're likely to find a more affordable rent, for the tradeoff of a little more traffic on your daily commute.
Savannah/ Bodden Town
This area is truly ideal for those looking to avoid the hustle of Seven Mile Beach and offers tenants more property for their money. Many expats gravitate East after being on Cayman for some time, as they seek out a quieter way of Cayman life. Countryside Shopping Village offers a one stop shop for all your needs in this neighbourhood, with grocery and DIY stores, banking, fitness centre and a telecoms store – you’ll find everything you need here, far from the crowds of George Town and Seven Mile Beach.
East End/North Side
If you are looking to escape the crowds and find true peace, head out East to the districts of East End and North Side. This is the definition of relaxed island living. Although still available, dining and entertainment options are spread out and limited in this area, but this level of peace and tranquility can be wonderful in the right mindset. Nearly all of your nearby bar and restaurant choices will be oceanfront and mudslides are definitely the order of the day.
